Now I admit, this issue doesn't really have any effect on me, I am Canadian, and as such am pretty much free to partake in a little bit of ganja if I so choose with little repercussion. This freedom I posses to choose whether or not I want to has not turned me into the stereotypical stoner, living on the couch and watching I Love Lucy reruns until 3am. In fact, i have never smoked it in my life, I don't care to. I also don't drink or smoke and I wouldn't snort cocaine if I was allowed to.
The issue that I want to discuss though is Pres. Obama's dismissal of a "fairly popular question" in his recent online town hall meeting. In the video he dismisses the question of whether marajuana should be legalized and implies that the audience he is addressing, who are concerned citizens if they are asking questions, are merely a few lonely pot-heads. It turns out the question wasn't just poular but was the highest ranked question asked.
I have another question for Mr.President, what are you afraid of? His dismissal of the subject is what offended me and as I stated he isn't even my leader. I can accept if he has a differing opinion to that over what turns out to be a major portion of the population, but his dismissal shows that his government isn't 'by the people for the people" but rather simply "by the people" . It is disappointing, I once championed his presidency from my icy stoop up here. "Now things will change" I would say, but I am starting to see not even the great Obama intends on running the country for the American citizens but rather for the Republicans.
He has made his presidency overly bipartisan which in my opinion is a mistake. You don't want to alienate the Republicans but the citizens of the United States gave him and his Democratic party a mandate to lead. Nothing will get done if he doesn't anger himself some of the right wing and stick to his platform despite the possible inter house conflict. Rule for the people Mr. President, not your fellow politicians.

Homework Kill, Says New Study
A new study is out today that links the amount of homework a child is burdened with on average and infant mortality rates. The study was conducted at Montreal's McGill University by the Department of Education Studies.
The link found is said to be in the stress and anxiety that can overcome a child that is assigned over 2 hours of homework a night. The stress can have a negative effect on the health of a child's immune system leading to infections and other ailments such as meningitis. Researchers were reluctant to provide a firm number on the number of deaths that they would say can be linked to excessive homework but they said we would be naive to assume zero.
When reached for comment the Minister of Education had this to say, "We are currently reviewing the study and will consider following the study up with a private study. We are willing to create rules on the amount of homework a child can be assigned on any night." He followed up by saying, "The health and quality of education of the children is our number one priority."

Republican Senator Endorses Contoversial Ufologist
Senator Jonathon Dauws, a Republican Senator from Utah, has endorsed controversial Ufologist Malcolm Kaen. The senators has called the author of the book, The Deep Space Conspiracy, "a great scientific mind" and said his book, "opened my eyes about the existence of alien life forms. Dauws' aid declined to comment on the senator's words.
Kaen has long been an advocate of the existence of alien life and in his book discusses his hypothesis that alien life forms created the Earth and are using our planet as a petry dish of sorts. He says that we are being observed by the aliens, which he has dubbed the Morakks.
Dauws was re-elected by a razor thin margin in the recent elections, in which he beat Democrat contender Ralph Mafoff with 52% of the popular vote. He was first elected in the 2000 election.

Man Robs Store He Was Fired From
Clive Robertson of Little Rock, Arkansas is the new front runner for dumbest criminal of the year.
On March 25th, 2009 at roughly 1:30 pm Robertson walked into a downtown Quik & Ready convenience store wearing a ladies stocking over his head. He approached the counter and while brandishing a blade, demanded the attendant, Lillian Walker, to give him all the money in the register. She obliged to the command and filled the burlap sack she was presented with the register's contents, $214 in total. Robertson fled the store and Walker called the police.
Robertson was apprehended by city police shortly ofter the robbery took place. Walker was able to tell the police exactly who it was who robbed the store because up until 12:00 pm of the same day Robertson had been an employee at the location, before he was fired for continually being late for shifts. He even wore the shirt from his Quik & Ready uniform, complete with name tag.
Robertson faces charges of Armed Robbery and if convicted faces up to 25 years in prison. Walker was unable to be reached for comment.
